A Legend Turns 73.

romero

Without him, we wouldn’t have zombies today. We wouldn’t have zombies. WHAT KIND OF WORLD WOULD THAT BE?!

Thank you, Mr Romero, for scaring the bejesus out of generations of horror nerds like me. Happy birthday, sir.

There’s a reason I make words instead of pictures, kids.

Zombie Weather!

The fog outside is ridiculous! Fog is my favourite weather, by far. When it’s as thick as it is tonight, it’s hard not to expect the lurching undead to creep out of the wisps, arms extended, questing for brains…

Really I think I love it because it’s so uncommon. A good fog, a real fog, like the one tonight, happens here maybe once a year. It’s so heavy that I can barely see the house across the street.

It gets the cogs in my mind going, picturing all the dastardly deeds that could be happening right beside you, muffled and hidden…

“Dark Side” Giveaway!

SniderWriter has now reached 10,000 hits!!

You guys, you don’t even know. You’re fabulous, the whole lot of you. I came home just now, saw this, and instantly my crappy day turned awesome again. Thanks so much!

I want to give you something back, so I thought I’d hold a little draw.

I’m giving away five digital copies of Dark Side: Seven Repulsive Stories, my first collection of horror shorts. There’s a little something for everyone: zombies, a psychopathic child, a naked Boogeyman, and of course blood and guts everywhere, just like we like it.

Comment on this post and tell me your favourite horror movie to enter. That’s it. That’s all. And even that’s only so I know who wants in. You have until 8PM EST Saturday October 20th to enter. I’ll pick winners at random and notify you by 11PM EST Saturday, so you can stay up late and get your scare on. Please make sure I have some way of contacting you: email, twitter, blog address, SOMETHING, because I’ll be sending the winners an exclusive code for the free download.

Good luck! I hope you like it!

Dark Craft: Walking Dead Embroidery

The talented Rebecca Simpson over at Rebecca Simpson Design has blown my mind.

Simpson decided to embroider some of the comic art for The Walking Dead as a gift for her fiance, and the results are incredible. Check it out:

Simpson says she “[u]sed different amounts of black strands to achieve shading.” The precision is what makes this piece so fantastic. Well done!

ZZZZOMBIES, a Short Film

“ZZZZOMBIES – a stop motion animation on overhead projector”

This one made me actually laugh out loud. In the living room. By myself. Which is weird, and made me feel like a dork. But I loved it, and I think you will too.

Mr Buster’s Bodies: “4 Out of 5 Grilled Cheeses”

Haven’t read it yet? Click here.

My pal Leslie over at I Know I’m Not Normal Because… posted a review of my short horror story, Mr Buster’s Bodies, today.

“Mr. Buster, always “Mr” never “Jim” and never ever just “Buster” as the story will tell you, is an exceedingly well crafted character. His scheming and treachery will have you wrapped up in his twisted mind, start to finish.”

Continue reading at her new blog, then snoop around over there for a bit. She’s a funny girl.

CDC: No Such Thing As Zombies

Given the recent cannibal attacks, the Center for Disease Control has issued a response to those worried about the impending Zombie Apocalypse:

“CDC does not know of a virus or condition that would reanimate the dead (or one that would present zombie-like symptoms),” said agency spokesman David Daigle, to The Huffington Post.

Just in case, the CDC has published a Zombie Preparedness plan, available here.

(And make sure to reread your favourite zombie stories; you can never be too ready for Zombie Doom.)
